Chi Upsilon Sigma Board of Trustees
New York, NY (12/30/11) - As 2012 approaches Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Inc. undergoes restructuring of its Board of Trustees and welcomes a new addition, Silvia Mazzula, to the devoted team. The mission of the Board of Trustees (BOT) is to direct Chi Upsilon Sigma’s priorities on the advancement of the organization. The BOT focuses on strategically making comprehensive changes in the overall structure, organization and business practices of Chi Upsilon Sigma in order to better accomplish its mission. The BOT is committed to examining the scope of the organization’s internal and external practices and to ensuring that the organization excels in today’s evolving environment.
Chi Upsilon Sigma is fortunate to have the following sisters serve on the current Board of Trustees:

• Anna M. Castillo - Trustee of Communication
• Lea V del Rosario - Trustee of Development
• Silvia Mazzula - Trustee of Parliamentary Procedure (Newly appointed)
Glenda Gracia-Rivera – Chair
Glenda Gracia-Rivera is a graduate of Seton Hall University with a BA degree in Sociology and a Master of Public Administration in nonprofit management. Having pledged Chi Upsilon Sigma in the Spring of 1992, Glenda has extensive leadership experience at the local chapter and National level, and is one of the founding members of the sorority’s Board of Trustees. She is the currently employed at the Center for Women and Work at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ where she serves as the Associate Director for Education and Career Development Programs. Glenda resides in Bucks County, PA with her husband and children.Addyris Lugo – Vice Chair
Addirys Lugo-Bermudez was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and raised in Bethlehem, PA. She learned to speak English at the age of 10. Today she is assistant director of Admissions at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, PA where she is involved in recruitment, academic advising, and other programs that play a role in student success.
Anna M. Castillo – Trustee of Communications
Anna M. Castillo graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor ('95) and Master ('01) of Arts degrees in English. She has been a member of Chi Upsilon Sigma since Spring 1998 as a founding member of Pi Chapter, the first Chi Upsilon Sigma chapter in the state of Texas. Since becoming a sister Anna has served in several roles as an undergraduate and alumnae including becoming a member of the Expansion Committee and serving as the first Vice President elected for the Great Plains Region. Anna currently resides in Georgetown, Texas where she works for Southwestern University as the Assistant Director of Intramural & Recreational Activities and a volunteer Assistant Coach for the Southwestern Softball team.
Lea V. del Rosario – Trustee of Development
Lea del Rosario has been a member of CUS since Spring 1992 and a graduate of Rutgers University. Lea has held numerous positions on the Grand Chapter Board and previously served as the BOT Chair at its inception. On a national level, Lea was also the former President of the Concilio Nacional de Hermandades Latinas, leading its merger into CUS's present day umbrella organization, NALFO. Lea is currently works in the field of Human Resources for Coty Inc., a leading beauty industry company.
Dr. Silvia Mazzula - Trustee of Parliamentary Procedure (Newly appointed)Dr. Silvia Mazzula is an assistant professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Department of Psychology, where she teaches forensic mental health counseling. She is a research fellow at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute, Department of Child Psychiatry, and the President-Elect of the Latino Psychological Association of New Jersey. Dr. Mazzula’s scholarship focuses on Latina/o mental health, with an emphasis on issues of race and culture in psychology research and practice. She earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University (BS and MA, The College of New Jersey; MPhil, Columbia University) and completed her formal clinical training at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey-UBHC Newark Campus. Dr. Mazzula has been a member since 1994 and has served various leadership roles, including executive board positions on both the Grand Chapter Board and the Board of Trustees.
As the BOT’s efforts evolve, the BOT will continue to provide guidance to the Grand Chapter Board and the membership in an effort to meet the needs of the organization. It is the BOT’s expectation that working collaboratively with the Grand Chapter Board and newly appointed liaison will strengthen the organization’s infrastructure. Moreover, it is the BOT’s vision to maintain focus on Chi Upsilon Sigma’s principles and core values to provide an opportunity for emphasis on accountability for our actions and leadership by example.
Chi Upsilon Sigma has been in existence since April 29, 1980, incepted on the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers – the State University of New Jersey. Our founders are 7 Latinas who had the desire to create an organization to promote leadership among the Latino community and our membership has since grown to incorporate women of all ethnicities. Chi Upsilon Sigma has devoted itself to increasing awareness amongst ourselves, and our communities about important political, social, cultural, and educational issues and servicing the communities around us.
NALFO (National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations) is an umbrella council for Latino Greek Letter Organizations. The purpose of NALFO is to promote and foster positive interfraternal relations, communication, and development of all Latino Fraternal organizations through mutual respect, leadership, honesty, professionalism and education.
