FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York City, NY. April 30, 2007. Corazones Unidos Siempre/Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc. Headquarters. CHI UPSILON SIGMA ESTABLISHES NATIONAL PERFORMANCE TEAM: SEVEN

The Grand Chapter Board of Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Inc. (CUS) passed a proposal for a national step and stroll team in January 2005. SEVEN is to be recognized as Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Incorporated’s official National Performance Team.

Alumnae performers of CUS’ Upsilon Chapter introduced the concept of SEVEN in 2004. “SEVEN will promote sisterhood, teamwork, scholarship, dance achievement, high moral standards and continued pride and enthusiasm for, and within the sorority,” says Diana Arias, President of SEVEN.

Members of SEVEN are identified as “Agents” and are required to audition for membership in SEVEN. SEVEN and its agents will represent CUS at a national and local level.

In the early 80’s, Chi Upsilon Sigma was the first Latina sorority to ever participate in stepping. SEVEN’s purpose is to carry on this legacy and to continue to be innovators in the world of Latino Greek Life, and in particular stepping and strolling.

SEVEN’S Mission Statement: "Our goal is simply stated: To assist CHI UPSILON SIGMA in continuously improving the quality of our sisterhood through each and every performance by:

  • providing coach and team feedback and ideas
  • nurturing good sportsmanship and respect through coach networking and communication
  • promoting safety guidelines, physical and mental well-being, leadership training and growth

    We the members of SEVEN are to: Come to practice realizing what an honor it is to be part of SEVEN and to be a part of the select few who have the opportunity to be here. We are to have respect for ourselves, for our teammates and CHI UPSILON SIGMA, NATIONAL LATIN SORORITY, INC. We are to be a responsible team member, by fulfilling and exceeding the expectations outlined in SEVEN’s guidelines. We are to be a determined member and to be dedicated to the team and its goals through our support of CHI UPSILON SIGMA.

    Agents: Have trust in your teammates and the executive board by respecting each other and the decisions that are made. Never be afraid to give and receive constructive criticism if it is beneficial for the team. Leave your stress behind and remember to always enjoy practice. Always be open to others criticism. Compliment others. Appreciate your team members and what everyone has to offer!
